QuestionCan I apply late?
Answer Yes. If you are eligible from the Autumn intake and apply by 30th September, you will be paid from the start of term. Alternatively, if you apply from the winter intake and apply before the last day in February, you will be paid from the start of the January term. No application will be processed for academic year 2008-09 after 31 March 2009.

QuestionDo I have to pay it back?
AnswerNot unless you are overpaid or have not met the conditions of your Learning Agreement.

QuestionWhere is the money paid?
AnswerDirectly into your bank account.

QuestionWill it get me a job?
AnswerNot directly. But if you use the extra time in school or college to get extra qualifications it should help you to get a better job than if you left school with none.

QuestionDoes it affect benefits?
AnswerNo. EMA is currently paid over and above Child Benefit and other benefits.

QuestionCan I get an EMA if I am on New Deal?
AnswerNo. Young people on the New Deal education option or on government supported training schemes are not eligible for EMAs.

QuestionIs it only for low-income families?
Answer If your family income is less than £32,317 you qualify for an EMA, providing you meet the other eligibility requirements i.e age and residency.

QuestionDo I need a bank account?
AnswerYes. If you have any problems opening a bank account, let your Local Authority know.

QuestionIs my school/college in the scheme?
AnswerAll recognised schools and colleges are in the programme.

This will not affect your entitlement to an EMA, provided that you renew your EMA Learning Agreement.
